Riomaggiore is a part of the National Park of  Cinque Terre and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When arriving from La Spezia, Riomaggiore is the first village of Cinque Terre. It is well known in the world for its path, "Via dell'Amore" with its stunning rushes to the sea. This natural beauty continues into the following village Manarola. Man had started to extend its natural aspects by adding terraces upon which kilometres and kilometres of  vineyards have been constructed.  This has given yield to its most celebrated white wines and of course its most outstanding of all “Sciacchetrà”.  This is a sweet wine obtained by turning the selected grapes into raisins and then wine.  The village name derives from “Rivus Major” the antique name of the flowing stream which ran through the village.  The marina is a small port and it has a slip for boats and there is a mooring area for ferries to transport passengers to the other Cinque Terre villages.  There is also a small path which takes one to the beach, “Fossola”.  The beach path has a  branch off which takes one to “Torre Guardiola” (Look out Tower) with its breath taking view.
